Welcome to the Sustainable Glasgow Project (SGP): Glasgow's first dedicated environmental digital media platform, striving to become to one-stop shop for green news, events, articles and solutions.
SGP supports grass-roots projects and disadvantaged Communities in acting to create a sustainable Glasgow. SGP shares information and promotes good practice, raises awareness and recognises that Sustainable Development is a shared responsibility strengthened by collective action.
SGP is a not-for-profit social enterprise and is registered with Companies House as Sustainable Enterprises Scotland (CIC), Company No. SC470286. As a Community Interest Company (CIC) - a new type of company that was introduced in 2005 - SES/SGP will use profits and assets for the public good and the benefit of the community.
SGP aims to introduce innovative projects within Glasgow which strive towards improving the environment.
This website and media hub has been developed to raise public awareness of sustainability and the contribution it can make towards delivering a sustainable future, while improving our - and our audiences - understanding of sustainable living.
Making cities sustainable is one of the most important missions of our generation. The planet requires that we move with haste towards sustainability and because population is now so greatly concentrated in cities - and the opportunities are mostly based there to gain efficiencies - cities are the most important area for intervention.
For the first time in history the majority of the world’s population live in cities. How do we reduce the environmental demands of cities, whilst maintaining and expanding the cultural and social vitality that can make life in the city so desirable and rewarding? In cities all over the planet people are concerned about sustainability. Action to tackle this subject is occurring at many levels and on many fronts.
What Has Been Done So Far?
Sustainable Glasgow Project was born as a concept by Sam Dickie whilst studying Environmental Management & Planning at university in Glasgow. Since then David Parr has joined the team as Environmental Ideas Consultant and together we are now co-directors of the company. The two of us, along with various other talented volunteers strive to bring the best information to the public's attention. Currently we are working hard with environmental experts, engineers, advisers, public officials and various businesses on developing and integrating various projects within Glasgow and the surrounding area.
Currently the SGP working on our first project, Project Urban Forest. Learn more here about our current projects.
