Pollution in my city
Today I have found out that air pollution is when the air contains gasses, fumes, dust or odours which are harmful. Some of the chemicals that make up these harmful gasses are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxides and methane. These gasses come from car pollution, animal poo, industry and general modern living.
I looked in to where the worse places for pollution on the planet are and I found out that the largest cities in the world produce the most pollution. I was surprised that the worst in the world were mostly in the ELDC's. I expected EMDC's to be the worse because of all the cars and animals. I found out that through modern technology EMDC's are trying to improve the pollution in their country.
Then David asked me questions about about Scottish pollution problems and I had to research the questions he asked me and I found out that Hope Street was the most polluted in Scotland. This surprised me because I didn't think it would have been in Glasgow because I don't think of it as dirty.
Air pollution has several harmful effects on human health and negative environmental impacts. These include acid rain, increased respiratory diseases like asthma and other illnesses like heart disease, lung disease, mental health problems and some sources say it could help prevent cancer develop.
We can improve the pollution levels by doing big and little things like turning off lights and TV's when not using them or using public transport instead of cars. These all mean less emissions and less health problems for people. I think this may help me in the future with my geography studies at school.
