Farm Woodland Management & Planting
CSGN Woodland Creation Programme
Hagbrae is a 136 ha organic dairy farm owned by Andrew and Julie Lorrain-Smith. The farm sits on top of a hill and is fairly exposed with most of the ground under arable or reseeded improved grassland. The long-established woodlands offer much-needed shelter and contribute greatly to the biodiversity of the farm.
During the course of this afternoon farm walk, we will look at the opportunities for woodland management and expansion to further support this farm business. We will visit several woods to look at practical management issues and discuss topics such as:
- how to increase woodland productivity
- managing woodlands as a landscape feature
- improving and building green networks
- planning and fudning new woodland
The walk will be led by Donald McPhillimy with support from Forestry Commission Scotland and Lothian & Fife Green Network Partnership.
Tea & Coffee on arrival from 12.30pm.

Please note this is an outdoor event which will require clothing and footwear suitable for a farm!
