The lights will use motion sensors to detect approaching cyclists and in turn will increase the lighting along the route. It has yet to be decided where the route will be piloted. It is hoped the pilot will begin late December early January.
It is hoped the lighting will cut down on energy used to power conventional lights which stay on throughout the night regardless if the route is being used. The lighting will also dramatically cut down the amount of light pollution produced.
This will all be made possible from the cities 24million cash injection from the Future City initiative fund from the Governments Technology Strategy Board.
