The turbine is a joint venture between Glasgow City Council and Scottish Southern Electric SSE. According to the Evening Times it took 80 people and approximately 18 weeks to construct.
The turbine will generate enough energy to power 20% of Glasgow's 72,000 street lights. Any excess energy generated will be sold to the National Grid, the earnings will go towards the Castlemilk and Carmunnoch trust, generating £500,000 over the 25 year span of the turbine.
